Together with Stena Recycling, ABB has created a concept for recycling electric motors. Kymar AS, a certified ABB Value Provider, has now become part of this with a long-term agreement for the recycling of electric motors with Stena Recycling. The company is a giant in the effort to create a circular society, with operations in eight countries and a network of 178 recycling facilities in Europe. Electric motors are largely made up of valuable raw materials, and the recycling of aluminium, copper and iron itself provides energy savings of between 75 and 95 percent compared to new production of the metals from mining. "We currently collect around 30 tonnes of old equipment, but we expect increased demand for services such as recovery and recycling from the market," says Ulf R. Pettersen, CEO of Kymar.
